A new generation of efficient, fuel-flexible shipping - ABELINA WAGENBORG launched in The Netherlands
On 8 October 2026, Abelina Wagenborg, the first vessel of Royal Wagenborg’s new-generation EasyMax 2.0 series, was officially named and launched at Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in the Netherlands.
The Gridin’s Group team contributed to the vessel’s construction by carrying out steel fabrication and installation works, including the installation of thruster foundations in the bow and stern, fabrication and installation of tank foundations as well as the installation of an additional forward bulkhead. The works also involved tank installation and welding, the installation of deck sections to close the cargo holds, and other structural components.
The 14,000 DWT multipurpose cargo vessel is the seventh EasyMax vessel in the Wagenborg fleet, but the first to feature the new EasyMax 2.0 design. Building on the experience gained from previous vessels, the new generation focuses on high cargo capacity, reduced fuel consumption and operational flexibility.
Designed with the future of shipping in mind, Abelina Wagenborg is prepared for the use of alternative fuels, including methanol, ammonia and LNG.
